Whatzzzzzz UUUPPPPP

We got to see our newest little girl phant this weekend. She is SOOOOO playful! She swings her trunk in circles almost above her head...she trumpeted like CRAZY and was running all over. She really reminded me of my kids...or a big PUPPY! Zahara is darling!

Ivory became the second African elephant in history to successfully conceive and give birth via artificial insemination when this little female calf hit the ground running on August 31, 2006. Zahara, whose name was chosen in a Name the Baby Contest with the Indianapolis Star and WTHR-TV, came just a few weeks early after a 22-month gestation. Active and alert, the little female appears to be advanced for her age, and she was the heaviest at birth of the four calves born at the Indianapolis Zoo since 2000, weighing in at 266 pounds at birth. She is very curious about discovering the world around her and has already developed some mastery over that elusive trunk - the elephant's tool for discovering and manipulating its environment.
